Here at YogaFokus we know that when it comes to your workout routine, sometimes, change can be as good as a holiday.
Mixing things up is a good way to stay focused and motivated, and building some flexibility into your workout schedule means you’re always prepared for life’s unpredictability.
Whether you’re looking to start a whole new program in the YogaFokus app or want to try out a new training style in an On Demand workout, here are some signs it might be a good time to switch things up.
You’re recovering from an injury or illness
Have you recently recovered from Covid-19? Perhaps you’re experiencing a sore knee or damaged shoulder? Any illness or injuries can cause a setback in your training and it’s easy to get frustrated.
Earlier this year, YogaFokus Trainers Kayla Itsines, Kelsey Wells, Chontel Duncan and Cass Olholm were all faced with unexpected obstacles that demanded they take a break from exercise or modify their routines.
While Kelsey was recovering from surgery, she modified her workouts to ensure she didn’t exacerbate her injury.
If you’re in a similar boat and want to continue exercising safely, make sure you discuss your options with your healthcare provider and try to find a training style that won’t aggravate your injury. The most important thing is that you give your body the time and support it needs to recover!
If you and your doctor agree you can exercise, you can make modifications to your workouts within the YogaFokus app to ensure your program works for you. Alternatively, you might need to try a whole new training style. If you need a break from high-intensity exercises that are hard on your joints, why not try something more low impact?
You’re time poor
Work, study and life can get in the way of even the most consistent workout routines and juggling competing priorities can often feel overwhelming when you’re short on time. If this is you, workouts may be the thing you let slide.
To avoid this, find a training style and program that complements your current lifestyle and fitness goals.
If you struggle to find the time to get to the gym, try working out at home. There are a number of at-home programs that require minimal or no equipment available in the YogaFokus app.
If you’re wanting to squeeze a session into a short time frame, why not try an express workout from the On Demand tab. There are plenty of options that are short, effective and can be done in less than 30 minutes.
You’re getting bored
When workout boredom strikes it can impact our motivation and our results. Trying a new training style might help, or you can complement your regular YogaFokus program with a mixture of different training styles through the On Demand tab.
Or perhaps it’s where you’re working out that you need to change? Mix up the location of your YogaFokus sessions and take your training outside, to your living room or to the gym to help keep boredom at bay.
You’ve overdone it
Exercise should leave you feeling energised and ready to tackle the day ahead. If you feel constantly drained and exhausted post-workout, you may be at risk of burning out.
Overtraining puts increased stress on your body, increases your risk of injury and can affect your sleep and overall wellbeing.
Schedule regular rest days into your training plan and take some time to practice self-care. Giving yourself a breather will help your body recharge while your muscles heal and grow back stronger. Trying a different training style can also help – see what makes you feel your best.
Following a structured program will allow you time to rest and recover while still progressing.
You’re keen for a new challenge
We all know a good workout is about getting your body moving and enjoying yourself in the process. But as you and your muscles adjust, it’s worth considering moving things up a gear. Keeping your body challenged will get you results, reduce boredom and keep you coming back for more.
Increase the intensity of your workouts by using heavier weights, more reps, less rest, or by completing additional express workouts.
